Time for My Favorite Weekend

Posted by TheShu in Food on September 18th, 2008 |  No Comments »

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

No, it’s not Christmas…but it almost feels like it. I’m giddy as a schoolgirl. It’s time for “The” weekend.

Look at this lineup:

All weekend long, it’s GreekFest at the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church on the corner of Friendly and Westridge Rd. Look at those luscious Loukamades…just dripping with honey and cinnamon…oh my…as they say in the military…GET SOME! And get some gyros too!

And then there’s The Music Academy’s 16th annual Ice Cream and Music Festival on Saturday…note it’s on Saturday this year instead of Sunday as it has been for the past few years. $7 for all you can eat ice cream and music, baby! That’s what I’m talking about! It’s at Guilford college…which conveniently is right down the street from Greekfest.

And don’t forget the Central Carolina Fair ends this weekend as well. More good food and fun to be had.

I almost don’t know where to start. It’s bad for the waistline, but lots of good food and fun.

Lesson in Customer Service

Michelle and I were out at Tripps on New Garden the other night and had a very unusual experience.

Michelle had ordered a Shrimp Alfredo dish as her main course and I was having a dish with chicken breasts covered with a lemon mushroom sauce. Of course we got the bread and olive oil & spice dip. Michelle had a salad also. (Of course I couldn’t have a salad because of my blood thinner meds…lol) But when the main courses arrived, Michelle was less than thrilled.

Her Shrimp Alfredo just didn’t seem up to par. There wasn’t anything really in particular “wrong” with it…it just wasn’t that great. She even had me sample some of it to make sure. I agreed…it just wasn’t all that. Consequently she resigned herself to having just a few bites and taking the rest home.

That’s when Glen, the manager, happened upon the scene. He was making the rounds from table to table when he very astutely noticed that Michelle had barely touched her dinner. He asked her if anything was wrong with it and she commented that it just wasn’t hitting the spot. Glen, to our surprise, after asking if he could get her something else, then told us that he was going to take her Shrimp Alfredo off of the bill for us. We were amazed at the offer and told him so. He told us that it’s Tripps satisfaction guarantee policy that if you don’t like it, you don’t pay for it.

So I quickly told him that mine was awful as well…but I don’t think he bought it as he watched me sop up the last of the lemon mushroom sauce with a piece of bread. I think he was fearful that I was going to start licking my plate. I was so happy though, that I just didn’t have the heart to tell him that our waiter had made a mistake in sending out regular mashed potatoes on my order instead of the mashed sweet potatoes I had wanted.

So props to Glen for being a very observant and helpful manager. That’s the kind of service that gets repeat business from me.

Scrat Kicks Ass

Hopefully someday the big studios will wise up and realize that the best thing about the Ice Age movies is Scrat. Maybe then he’ll get his own full length feature.

Anyhoo…here’s the trailer for next year’s installment.

Another Kitty Movie

I was checking out this Animoto.com video site and was playing around with it some…of course I made a kitty movie. All you have do is upload some pics, pick or upload some music, and the system does all the video editing for you. Pretty cool!

After I did the first one, I remixed it with different, and I think, more appropriate music for Ginald. :)

Cat video

Got a new video camera a few weeks ago. Was just playing around and shot this video of Reginald and Louis. Nothing exciting and the video is a little washed out by the sun…but you get idea.

The Legendary “My Cat Swallowed Viagra” Story

There are actually very few blog posts that I remember or ever care to revisit on a regular basis.  But there is one that I go back to every so often and it still slays me every time I read it.

And that would by the “My Cat Swallowed Viagra” story on Greensboring.com

Take a peek at it…it might be one of the funniest things you’ll read today.  Enjoy.

Is it just me…or the weather?

Let’s see…I go to Green Bay, Wisconin in February…they got an ice storm and a foot of snow on top of it.

I went to New Hampshire a few weeks ago….a tornado hits the area where I’m staying about an hour before we get there.

Now I’m in Orlando, Florida…and we’re gonna get a frickin’ hurricane before I leave.  What gives?

Duckies

On the road again for the next 6 days.  Hangin’ with wonderful VFW folk from all over the country and the world at the National VFW Convention in Orlando, Florida.  Will be spending some time at the Peabody Hotel. Of course, one of the draws of the Peabody chain is their trained ducks.  They got the right idea.  It’s hot and humid here so hanging out by the pool is the plan.  In their case, the “pool” is the water fountain in the middle of the hotel lobby area.

Man shot in my parking lot

Holy Crap!!!

Just found out about this from a neighbor tonight.

That’s kind of freeky considering that I’m up at around 5 AM a lot of the time…just not that particular morning.  And I know the white SUV they’re talking about…it’s usually parked literally only a few dozen feet from my bedroom window.

Neighbor says they also got away with a few vehicles from a nearby complex as well.

This sucks.
